Christmas was a little stressful this year. Running all over town, cleaning up the house for guests and packing for our day-after-christmas vacation at the same time can wear you thin. It also doesn't help the nerves when all the recent reviews of your hotel in Jamaica say the hotel is not finished and they are turning people away. More on that in the next post.
Despite the stress, Christmas day itself was quite pleasant. Jillian and I woke up around eight o'clock and started exchanging gifts. With the upcoming trip, we had agreed to very strict gift budgets. Although there were no extravagant gifts, we both did a pretty good job. Notable: After a couple years of searching I had finally found a very specific orange NBC Survivor hat that Jillian was dying to have.
After presents breakfast and clean-up, we drove to my brother's house for a gumbo lunch/ present exchange. "Gumbo" turned into gumbo plus an entire thanksgiving style dinner and I proceeded to stuff my face despite knowing we had a big Christmas dinner planned. Lunch was delicious and we were finally able to give Allie her first bicycle. I'm not sure what exactly she thought of it, but hopefully it gets as much use as the pink power-wheels four-wheeler she also got.
We finished the evening up early with the dinner I had mentioned before. It was essentially another thanksgiving dinner with Jillian's mother and step-father. There was one more gift exchange and then we called it an early night. We hoped to get something close to eight hours of sleep before our alarms went off at 2:45 am (6:15 am flight).
