Current mood:
jubilant
In early February, I moved back to Daphne for career purposes and this is my 5 month evalution of life in my hometown. What I think has changed and stayed the same, for better, worse (or whatever it was before)The population in Baldwin County has exploded and the prices of homes are ridiculous. This is great for my parents who own a house, and not so much for myself
.
I'm not a huge fan of larger communities, but I have to admit, with development comes more things to do, and God knows how boring this town "used to" be... and still kinda is. There are new bars popping up all over. This I like very much. Though there seems to be more to do, people in this town still gossip as much as they did before. I am really disappointed in the "adults" of this community.
Have bathing suits gotten smaller?... this has nothing to do with this town at all... it just ran through my mind, b/c I went to the pool today. Of course I think I ask myself this question every summer....anyway...
All the local farmers are selling their land. It sucks for the scenery on the back roads. It's not my land, or my business... it was just my scenery so I really can't say bad things. The farmers are getting old and the land is getting them money. I would probably sell it too.
I was probably this much of a dick when I was a kid, but the middle school the high school kids around here need a really good ass kicking. Every one of them. That goes for you too Andrew, if you're reading this. One good swift kick in the ass. What happened to respect for community, families, property.... or my god-given rite to watch one damn movie without a cell phone ringing... or someone yell "what up
BACK TO A POSITIVE, there are new laws restricting billboard size and location. It's really made the area stay classy... in appearance.
Another positive, I've been able to catch up with friends from the past.
Negative, I've been able to catch up with other people from my past.
The outlet mall is still around and close enough to go to practically any weekend, so I can buy more stuff I don't need.
I actually enjoy going to the Blue Gill (restraunt/bar) these days... which I didn't before.... when I wasn't old enough to drink.
We no longer have a bowling alley in fairhope, but I think that happened before I left, I can't really remember. It still stinks though b/c I have to go to florida bowl in Mobile if I get the urge.
The Arts & Crafts festival is all overpriced paintings now and a lot less crafts. I always used to love going but it's not quite the same... I'll continue to go though.
The City puts on more events these days, with parades and festivals throughout the year. I recently saw 'Fly by Wire' about a month ago at an outdoor concert. Older drunk people dancing to an 80s cover band is so entertaining.
Mardi Gras never changed. Which is good... and bad.
Thats all I can think of now... and I have been scatter-brained about what I was writing since the bikini thing jumped into my brain.
OH... and I've started drinking Guinness since I got home... If I'm going to Ireland for the next St. Patricks Day... I'm not going to be a bitch and order Coors Light.
